Dear Friends,

These past two weeks have been extremely hectic. The plea for help that went out over the internet will explain most of it. We have printed it here for those who receive the paper version of the newsletter. It will also explain the reason for the very short newsletter this month. I do want to thank those who responded to our plea for help Without them, we would have had to live with the certain knowledge that some of our very loved animals would have had to die. I can't thank them enough.

Subject: latest news

I have literally been working day and night trying to find a way to save the animals here. Since the City of Valley has decreed only five animals to a homestead, and they are trying to call the Farm, which has seven separate deeds, one homestead, I am being forced to move most of the animals and I only have until the 18th of October to get it done. Since they can't go to the Dahlonega shelter, I have been searching high and low for somewhere to put them. My friend, Gale, took two of the dogs, but that still leaves 31 dogs and 57 cats that MUST be moved to a safe location until we resolve our differences with the City. I am assured, by legal advise, this can eventually be satisfied to our benefit, but this takes time and money.

Gale found a lady who owns partially fences property, with a mobile home on it in Lee County, where there is no limit on the number of animals one may keep as long as they are properly fenced or chained. She said we could put the dogs there if we wanted to fence it properly. She did not want the cats there as she still has belongings in the trailer. Last week, the lady called, saying her Mother was dying and she needed to sell the property. She has offered it to me for $30,000.00.

I have $5,000.00 coming sometime this week, left to All CATS by a long-time friend and supporter, Lola Bond, to use as earnest money. I need another $10,000.00 in two weeks at the signing of the deeds to complete the down payment. The balance will be divided equally between the next 12 months. I know this will not be easy, but I do know it has to be done. If I can't get the money, Valley Animal Control will pull onto my property on the 19th of Oct and load Bailey and Charlie Brown and jenny and Buster and Cyprus and Plowboy and all the other wonderful dogs we have worked so hard to save. Then there are the cats, all so beautiful and loving. They would be so very scared to be placed into a truck and carried away to be put into cages with other animals they didn't know, only to face death in a gas chamber in a few days. I, myself, don't believe I could live knowing I didn't do everything in my power to stop such a cruelty.

Please, please, please help me. This may be the most important thing we ever do. And, it has to be done immediately. There is no time to waste.

If anyone can even loan me the money, I promise to repay every cent. I have never been so scared for the animals as I am now.

Please pray for us. We are in desperate need.

Thank You,
Carolyn

Latest News

The only thing that has changed since this plea went out is the time frame. I have since learned that the Estate money won't get here until after all the Estate taxes are paid. The attorney can't give me even an estimate as to how long that will take. In the meantime, Pat Kachur and Dr. Carroll have contributed the earnest money. We still have to have the $10,000.00 as the rest of the down payment in two weeks, or all our work will be for nothing and we could still lose the dogs. The contracts have been signed saying we will pay that amount on the day the deeds are signed.

We know we will eventually get the $5000.00 Estate money, but probably not in time for our deadline.

The dogs have already been moved onto this property with the help of my son, Barry, and two of his friends. They did some of the cross fencing, but we still need several smaller pens. These men worked some very long days and nights to get the place secure for the dogs. The animals are safe on this property and they love the tall grass to play in. They act like they are on a picnic or at a party. We MUST save this place for them.

I repeat what I said in the original plea: Can someone loan me the money if you can't afford to donate it? I am doing everything I can think of to raise the money. Even my beloved truck is on the car lot for sale. I will make do with something else. The dogs are the most important things. Please, please find some way to help us.

Last, but certainly not least:

Our very own Pat Kachur is recovering from a double hip replacement surgery. She is recovering very well, already walking without a cane. "Amazing" according to her doctors. To us, she has always been ?amazing". She is always ready and willing to help with any emergency. She is a true, loyal friend, both to the shelter and to me personally. We wish the very best for her. And, just in case I don't remember to say it often enough, "Thank you, Pat. I am very lucky to have you as my friend."

Want list:

I am quite certain you all know this list by heart, so I am not going to waste my time typing it, or your time reading it.

Apologies:

To anyone I should have mentioned, and didn't. This is the very first newsletter I have had to do by myself. I just write the rescue stories and Pat Kachur does all the rest. I have a whole, new respect and appreciation for all her work!

Love,
Carolyn
