ENEWS - AUGUST 2002

PLEASE VISIT OUR WEB SITE AT: www.allcatsinc.org

*****************************************************************

Dear Friends,

This month we continue our series of newsletters highlighting pictures and stories of shelter animals. We hope that you will be moved to sponsor one or more of these cats and dogs; that is, send a regular donation to support him or her and?if possible?be responsible for any veterinary-related care that the animal may need? such as grooming and dental care and yearly vaccinations. We also have many adult animals available for adoption.

Bronwyn Harris remains TEMPORARILY unable to act as our adoption
coordinator. Therefore, please contact pat@allcatsinc.org or at the above shelter mailing address if you are interested in adoption or sponsorship.

OUR ANIMALS

This month we continue our series of newsletters highlighting pictures and stories of shelter animals. We hope that you will be moved to sponsor one or more of these cats and dogs; that is, send a regular donation to support him or her and if possible be responsible for any veterinary-related care that the animal may need such as grooming and dental care. Questions should be e-mailed to pat@allcatsinc.org.

Our featured animals for July:

SWEETIE - There is no particular story about Sweetie.Another unwanted pet dumped at the shelter by person or persons unknown. You can view Sweetie's pic on our website at
http://allcatsinc.org/PPH/photo.php?id=10

BROWNIE - She was found abandoned/dumped near the shelter. She was
estimated to be about 1-1/2 years old at the time. She was very, very skinny and had a terrible skin infection?very inflamed. Now, Brownie is very healthy and loves to play. Her skin is fine. You can view Brownie's pic on our website at
http://allcatsinc.org/PPH/photo.php?id=17

Please remember that we also have many adult animals available for
adoption. Contact pat@allcatsinc.org for details.

NEEDED: YOUR PRAYERS

We recently received the following from Jennifer and Nick Mastrovito:

"I'm writing on a sad note. Our 7-year-old Aussie named SCOUT has been missing since June 13. He went to the groomer that day to get a summer cut and ran away. We rescued SCOUT from the Albany Humane Society in 1996, and he has virtually been at our side since. Though he has been gone over three weeks, we have not given up hope that we will be reunited soon." We have been promised an update?hopefully a "good news" one!!!

*******************************************************************

In our July newsletter, we used this space to spell out our expenses vs. our donations ? so that you all can see what we need to continue to fill the needs of the four-legged shelter family, as follows:

Expenses ? Fixed

**Labor - $4,268/month
Garbage Pick-Up - $120/month
***Fund-Raising (Stamps) ? $119/month

Expenses ? Variable (Average for 2002)

Utilities ? Average

$200/month Veterinary Care*
$300/month Supplies
$150/month (trash bags, paper plates, paper towels, etc.)
Vehicle Expense $25/month (gas/oil/etc.)
Food/Cat Litter $200/month****
Cleaning Supplies $75/month (brooms, mops, Pine-Sol,
Clorox, laundry detergent, etc.)

This totals $5,218 per month. Donations during 2002 had averaged $4,577 per month to that point.

Obviously, no business could survive with this experience.

At this writing (obviously NOT quite at the end of July), it appears that July donations will total slightly under the $5,218 number?quite a large improvement.

WE THANK YOU FOR COMING THROUGH. WHAT IS NOW NEEDED IS TO
MAINTAIN/IMPROVE THIS LEVEL OF

SUPPORT?WE LOOK TO YOU TO ACCOMPLISH THIS. THE EXPENSES ARE THERE EACH AND EVERY MONTH!! WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TO BE THERE, TOO.

Thank you!!

IN MEMORY

From Elly Meyer "in memory of a friend of mine ? ALAN JACQUES ? he loved greyhounds and had three of them."

From Pattie Reber "in memory of D?J? VU, to thank John and Marcia for walking the long trail with him?from PUG AND TAT."

*****************************************************************

IN HONOR OF

From Stacy Mastrolia, who writes "I send this contribution in gratitude for LUCKY, a 10-week old black Lab puppy we found on the side of the road. I was appalled that no one ever reported him missing and figure he was dumped (although only a monster would have dumped such a sweet boy).

With the help of our vet, LUCKY has survived at least two weeks on his own?suffering from hookworms, staph skin infections, ticks, fleas, mange and malnutrition.

LUCKY has now found a home with my cousin, his wife and two sons. I know LUCKY will live up to his name and had a wonderful future ahead of him. God Bless You for what you do!"

Stacy ? LUCKY was indeed lucky to have you find him.

*****************************************************************

A GREAT SUGGESTION!!

From Walter Gordy?"I live within two blocks of a PetSmart store and have noticed many torn bags of premium cat and dog food thrown away. It might be that arrangements could be made to obtain these bags rather than having them end up in a dumpster." We would like
to add that this could be true for ANY store selling animal-related items (including your veterinarian). Please check with any store/clinic near you to see if they would be willing to do this. They MAY need to have a copy of our tax-exemption letter. If so, we would be glad to send a copy to you.

Note: It has been our experience that if stores are willing to do this, you MUST pick up the donated items promptly PLUS it is wise to call them on a regular basis, as they are often too busy to call you.

Any items sold in the store related to cats or dogs are acceptable?not just food. If you have any questions, drop us a line or e-mail pat@allcatsinc.org.
