Welcome to our eNewsletter!

Dear Friends,

The majority of this newsletter relates to the Katrina animal rescue effort and support received for it from many of you. However, the normal expenses for running the shelter did not go away?and donations for that purpose in September were only slightly better than August?which was one of all-time lowest support months. That level is definitely not enough to cover the basic necessities each month. There is not much more we can say on this subject?the future of our animals is in your hands.

Those of you who have been reading our website updates on our Katrina Animal Rescue effort know that we have been consumed by this tragedy and have doing our very best to help the animals whose lives have been endangered by it. Our Katrina Crew have been in Louisiana and Mississippi for almost a month now?only coming home for brief periods to pick up food and supplies and see their friends and families. We take great pride in what we have accomplished?rescue of more than 3,000 animals as of this writing?and want to thank you wonderful supporters for your donations of food, supplies and money which made it possible for us to do so. IF our efforts are to continue (and there are SO many more animals in danger), we MUST HAVE more donations for this purpose. As pointed out in all of our updates, there are several ways to donate:

1. Visit our website ( and donate on-line through PayPal with the special link for the Katrina Crew.

2. Send your check or money order made out to All C.A.T.S., Inc. to Carolyn Keeton at 4907 23rd Boulevard, Valley AL 36854.

3. Send money via Western Union to Carolyn Keeton in Valley AL and/or Barry Harbin in Albertville AL. BE SURE TO GET THE CONFIRMATION NUMBER AND SEND IT TO BARRY AT OR CALL CAROLYN AT 334 319 1045.

4. Send your donation to the Dawsonville address and note on your check that it is for the Katrina rescue effort.

5. If there is any other way you wish to donate, we'll be happy to discuss it. Call Carolyn at the above number.

We would like to acknowledge some of you in this newsletter, along with some of your comments:

Other donations and supportive comments:

Acworth Feed, Acworth, GA ? 118 pounds of cat food. This was arranged by supporter Connie Rice, who?with her friends Linda McDaniel, Kathy Dunbar, Beverly Pearcy and Earlene Wolfe?also donated a large amount of detergent, bleach, and papers towels.

Jerry Kaminsky, who arranged for immense amounts of animal food to be available for the thousands of rescued animals?in addition to making monetary donations to help purchase gasoline to keep our trucks and boats in operation.

Thomas Lanford wrote that the donation he sent was ?from the Dawg Dish Supper Club (and Bull Bat Sports Bar) Tailgating Society.. for use wherever needed. It is in memory of all of our faithful four-legged, furry companions who did not make it through the recent tragedy, in honor of those who did, and in admiration of those who are doing the rescuing.?

Rev. & Mrs. T. (Tom) C. Lanford wrote that ?our son, Tom Lanford, Jr., knows of your organization, so when we asked about helping Katrina animal rescue, he said you. Hope this little bit helps. Thank you for all you do.?

Karen Lyons, who in addition to other donations, baked dog biscuits for sale and sent us the proceeds.

Misty and Chris Saldi, who wrote ?your compassion in the relief efforts is amazing. We wish you safety and many rescues in my home state.?

Ann James ? ?Keep up the good work and save as many as you can.?

Mary Knepp ? ?Bless you for your work with animals and, most specifically, for your efforts, commitment and courage with the Gulf crisis.?

PLEASE REMEMBER?we continue to need extra money to make the payments on the land, which are $1,500 EXTRA every month in 2005. These payments are, of course, over and above the normal costs of running the shelter. We urgently need your help with these?we?re in the home stretch and it would be tragic to lose the land (and all the money already paid) now. Donations for the land purchase and general expenses for the Alabama location should be sent to Carolyn Keeton, 4907 23rd Boulevard, Valley AL 36854.

?Like pain relievers for humans, pain relievers for animals are helping millions of pets live happier, healthier, fuller lives. ?the FDA says the drugs for dogs are safe, with doggie drug makers such as Fort Dodge, Meial, Novartis and Pfizer reporting that fewer than one percent of dogs have had bad reactions to them?.When a dog is in pain, veterinarians have lots of choices of what to send pet owners home with? But not so for cats, as cats are exquisitely sensitive to the toxic effects of many medications. Cat owners should instead seek veterinary care when they consider their cat is in pain, for early detection of the cause?and safe pain mediations.? Knight Ridder Newspapers as Reported the Atlanta Journal Constitution on September 25, 2005.

?Federal disaster grants to state and local governments should be conditioned on how they accommodate pets in their evacuation plans, say lawmakers disturbed that some Hurricane Katrina victims refused to leave home because they couldn?t take their animals with them. ?I cannot help but wonder how many more people could have been saved had they been able to take their pets,? Rep. Tom Lantos, D-California, said Thursday. Lantos and Reps. Christopher Shays, R-Conn., and Barney Frank, D-Mass., are sponsoring a bill that would require that state and local disaster preparedness plans required for F.E.M.A. funding include provisions for household pets and service animals.?
