Dear Friends,

We received some unfortunate news concerning our shelter and desperately need your assistance. The State of Georgia has now decided to set a limit of 50 dogs for the shelter even though in past years they have told us we could have up to 100.

We currently have 65 dogs and must find homes for 15 of them on or before May 13, 2002 or the State will come and remove them and take them to the Humane Society. And unfortunately, we know their chances of survival there are slim at best.

If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs or know someone who is, please contact Bronwyn Harris at 770 427 6584 or via email at 1animallover@msn.com.

You can also contact Pat Kachur at pat@allcatsinc.org for more information.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give us at this time.

OUR ANIMALS

This month we continue our series of newsletters highlighting pictures and stories of shelter animals. We hope that you will be moved to sponsor one or more of these cats and dogs (send a regular donation to support him or her and?if possible?be responsible for any veterinary-related care that the animal may need. Questions should be e-mailed to pat@allcatsinc.org.

We also have many adult animals available for adoption. Please see details on this program in this newsletter.

Our featured animals for May:

Smokie: She's a little darling! She was a stray found as a tiny kitten in a dumpster. Smokie has been at the shelter since 1993. She got her name from her habit of sniffing the air as if she is smelling smoke. You can view Smokie's pic on our website at
http://allcatsinc.org/PPH/photo.php?id=4

Goldie: An adorable male golden retriever! He was found as an adult in 1994 on a very dark, rainy morning by a shelter employee. He was so weak that he had to be carried to the shelter. Goldie has a slight limp but gets around very well. Goldie is very sweet and well behaved. You can view Goldie's pic on our website at http://allcatsinc.org/PPH/photo.php?id=1

THE GRASS IS SO.....LOOOONG!!!!

The shelter lawn is VERY MUCH in need of mowing?and our trusty lawn mower has died. We would appreciate a volunteer with a lawnmower coming up any day to make us look neat and tidy once
again. Please contact Pat Kachur at 770 998 9442 or pat@allcatsinc.org to let us know if you will be able to help us.

*****************************************************************

THANK YOU'S

To Avis Buchanan, Mildred Ferrell, Dr. & Mrs. Robert Klingbeil for their donations toward our veterinary expenses

To Dr. & Mrs. Robert Klingbeil for their donation earmarked for our veterinary expenses.

To Bette Anderson for sending ?before and after? photos and story of BUSTER, a dog she rescued in Brown County, Wisconsin. Buster had serious skin problems (mange), fleas, was emaciated and had just stumps where his hind feet should have been (probably due to being caught in a trap in the nearby swamps). Through great effort by Bette and her vet Dr. Gilbert, Buster now wags his tail and wants attention. Buster?s ?after? photo shows a wonderful, alert, cared for dog. Bette ended her story by saying, ?I can?t think about all the pain Buster has gone through these years but have to concentrate on how to help him now.?

There are these stories everywhere. We here are very happy Bette is taking care of the needy animals in her part of the world!!

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY...

Lisa Morris recently sent us this story about her four-legged family, which consists of:

Merlin - A 12-year old black (and graying) laborador/wolfhound mix - he was a puppy whose Mom had been hit by a car and killed and we took him in;

Ozzie - A 4-year old blue merle Australian shepherd (a giant 127 pounds worth) - we adopted him from our vet because his owner was going to take him out and shoot him because he barked too much - he was on his last day at the vet trying to be adopted;

Sadie - a 1 year old black mix who was left with us by friends who found her but couldn't keep her because their other dog tried to hurt her;

Beau - a 7-month old husky we adopted from my husband's coworker who no longer wanted the dog and intended to just leave him off somewhere;

Benji - a 1 year old rusty-brown mix (a true Benji-dog if we ever saw one!) who we adopted from the local shelter for my mother-in-law after her dog Rex died;

Maggie - 11-year old white and black-grey patch tabby domestic shorthair who lives inside and who we adopted from Cheshire Pet Supply;

Gizmo and Sylvester - 5-year old "terror twins" - Gizmo is tabby and Sylvester is black and white - they both live inside - we adopted both at 8-weeks the year after Heather (a tabby cat) died;

Felix - a 6-year old black and white who lives both indoors and out - he is an older brother to the twins who was left behind when the neighbors moved and adopted us and our neighbor across the
street;

Toby - a white and black longhaired outdoor cat who showed up one day and adopted us and our neighbor across the street

Joshua - a thoroughbred horse; Heather - a tabby cat; Max - a collie mix we found wandering and starving around at a gas station with hip bones and ribs showing and pads that were almost raw
Shawn Michael - a Brussels griffon we adopted from Alabama; Rex - a cocker mix.

We loved hearing about all Lisa?s brood and the stories about how they became family. We would also enjoy hearing other stories from any and all of you. Send your stories to Pat via email at
pat@allcatsinc.org.
